Would you go on a missionary station to Mars ? What about if it was a one - way mission ? And you were by yourself ? Yeah , that deepen things a bit . Well , that ’s exactly what former NASA engineer Jim McClane suggests , saying that it ’s worth consider and remove many of the hurdles keeping us from the Red Planet now .
Dubbed “ Spirit of the Lone Eagle , ” his plan would eliminate the hardest aspect of any likely Mars missionary work : the need to found off of Mars to return to Earth .
“ When we pass the need to launch off Mars , we remove the military mission ’s most daunting obstacle , ” said McLane . And because of a little work party size , the spacecraft could be little and the penury for consumables and supply would be decreased , making the mission flashy and less complicated .

While some might separate this as a self-destruction commission , McLane feels the conception is whole logical .
“ There would be tremendous risk , yes , ” read McLane , “ but I do n’t guess that ’s guaranteed any more than you would say climbing a mountain alone is a self-annihilation mission . citizenry do dangerous thing all the time , and this would be something really unequaled , to go to Mars . I do n’t think there would be any shortage of people uncoerced to volunteer for the delegacy . Lindbergh was someone who was uncoerced to take a chance everything because it was deserving it . I do n’t think it will be arduous to witness another Lindbergh to go to Mars . That will be the promiscuous part of this whole programme . ”
So , what do you say , wannabe space travelers ? Would you turn on in a petite starship to Mars by yourself to be make out as the first human ever to move to , and then croak on , Mars ? [ Universe TodayviaDanger Room ]
