Now that Batman , Superman , Wonder Woman , the Flash , Aquaman , and Cyborg have teamed up in Justice League , the DC Universe is ready to smash off — assuming itssmaller - than - anticipated opening move weekendhasn’t thrown a wrench in the works . But if Warner Bros. decides to continue the DC Extended Universe a bit longer , here ’s all the hint in Justice League to what may be fall .
A New League Is Coming
Every DC movie up until , and include , Justice League has had its heroes fighting a villain with superhuman powers . Zod , Doomsday , Enchantress , Ares , and now Steppenwolf have all been beings that a normal human could n’t defeat . So how can human big bads rest in the game ? By team up , of course .
In thefinal post - credits scenery of the film , Lex Luthor has escaped prison and asked Slade Wilson , a.k.a . Deathstroke , to link up him on his massive racing yacht . Once there , Luthor suggest maybe they should make a league of their own — an obvious allusion to the Legion of Doom , the company of supervillains that first appear in the Super Friends cartoon , but has gone on to become a regular feature of the DC comics . Obviously , this indicate that future DC films will focus on a group of supervillains that join violence to combat the Justice League ’s rise .
Presumably , these villains will be a short more worldly concern - reverberate than cosmic threats like Steppenwolf was , but perchance thestandalone Deathstroke moviethat ’s currently in the works — or perhaps even The Batman , if Slade is still part of it — will throw away some light on the origination of Lex ’s new “ League . ”
Darkseid Awaits
As Steppenwolf explains the Mother Boxes and Unity to , well , the audience , he mentions they will make the terra firma quick for Darkseid by turning the planet into a replica of Darkseid ’s homeworld , Apokalips . At one dot , he even mentions that the unconscious process will leave him to become one of the “ New Gods . ” Darkseid , of course , is DC ’s biggest , baddest unfit guy out there , one of the aforementionedNew Gods of Jack Kirby ’s “ Fourth World ” of cosmic supercharacters , and in the strip Steppenwolf is a member of his Elite , a ruling council of Apokolips ’ savage swayer .
The fact that Steppenwolf has such close ties to Darkseid is never explicitly stated in Justice League — but that one mention , and the tease above from Batman v Superman , lets us have it away that he ’s out there somewhere in the DCEU .
Superman’s Return Changes Everything
When Superman exit at the end of Batman v Superman , the reality mourn . That mourning not only gestate over into Justice League , it morphs into despair . And though the moving picture only shows him back for what ’s probably less than a sidereal day , Lex Luthor ’s acknowledgment of his return and Lois Lane ’s word about hope certainly make it seem like Superman ’s return is a morale boost to the entire world . This is likely a result of Warner Bros. trying to lighten up the movie during its production , after complaints that Batman v Superman was too dour . Whatever the cause , by the closing of the film the DCEU looks like it ’s going to be a happier berth follow Superman ’s resurrection .
The Green Lanterns Are Out There
Casually announcing a movie is one thing . Actually putting character in a movie is a whole other thing . So though Warner Bros.has made it cleara Green Lantern Corps . movie is in the works , we finally got a ribbing for the ring - power protectors of the galaxy during a flashback to Steppenwolf ’s first invasion of Earth . Amazons , Atlanteans , humans , and even gods fight back against his force , but several Lanterns also take flight into struggle using their igniter - base contructs to press the alien invasion .
It ’s a welcome reminder that , finally , this universe is go to get cosmic at some point , even if Green Lantern as a reference was n’t part of the League in this movie . Plus , one of the Lanterns falls at Steppenwolf ’s hand in the flashback , and we see a anchor ring fly off into the sky . In the comics , a Lantern ring is sovereign , and able of flying around and searching for a new wielder when its current proprietor expire , concede them the former line of work of the deceased Lantern . Hal Jordan famously get his ring from the crash - landed Green Lantern Abin Sur — could the motion picture instead re - ferment it so the closed chain we see in Justice League eventually make its way into his handwriting in Green Lantern Corps . ? It seems like a weird choice , but also a choice a DCEU movie would make .
Batman Is Approaching Retirement
Justice League does n’t directly come up to whether or not Ben Affleck will continue to play the Dark Knight — or how a unexampled solo Batman celluloid would fit into this world , peculiarly since the actor spent much of the flick ’s press tour mistily hint athis unsealed futurity with the franchise . But the movie does include a shot where Batman and Wonder Woman verbalise about how he “ ca n’t do this perpetually . ”

Even his human relationship with Mera , his future married woman and Queen of Atlantis — who seem in Justice League but is never actually named as such — is frosty at best . pull up stakes home , parental issues , yeah , there ’s gon na be plentifulness for Arthur Curry to ravel out come December 2018 .
Atlantean and Amazon History
Though they might not have a lot of significance travel frontwards , several major pieces of selective information about the past of the DC macrocosm are revealed in Justice League . In the flashback where the Atlanteans , Amazons , and human being team up to fight Steppenwolf , we learn that the Atlanteans have been around for centuries ( we already knew that about the Amazons thanks to Wonder Woman ) and that , at some item , they were at least partially living on land . It also seems like , at one point , Themyscira was a spot the Amazons could leave , but now for some grounds they can not . Each story seems fairly crucial to the hero of those peoples , and we ’ll likely check more about the Atlantean side of things in Aquaman . But considering Wonder Woman 2 will likely pore on Diana ’s extend exploit after leaving for Man ’s world , we plausibly wo n’t get much more about the history of the Amazons .
The Flash Got His Backstory Out of the Way
When we first meet Barry Allen in Justice League , he already has a lot of cognition about his powerfulness . He hints at his lightning - occupy origin , he calls the nation his magnate creates the “ Speed Force , ” and he ’s had the fourth dimension and money to make himself a suit . Justice League basically give us the cliff notes of the Flash ’s stock — which is probably good news for the Flashpoint pic . If it ’s at all close to the major , world - neuter event it is in the cartoon strip , the movie would n’t have time to manage with Barry ’s backstory while he ’s off , well … ruining the timeline .
Victor Stone May Be a Liability
In Justice League , Cyborg is an essential plus . Without him , the heroes would n’t have found or stopped Steppenwolf , period of time . However , all throughout the film , we see that he does n’t quite have control of who , or what , he is yet , and there ’s a incessant undercurrent — even if it ’s never really brought to the fore — that there ’s a roiling battle within Victor for restraint over the Mother Box technology infusing his body .
At the end of the moving-picture show , we see Victor confidently morph his dead body armour into something that ’s a small less Michael Bay Transformers - y and into something that ’s more of an approximation of his Hellenic Cyborg armour from the comics . It appear he now has more restraint over his technical school watch over Steppenwolf ’s defeat , but the struggle over his own body will believably be an important part of the quality ’s struggle in his standalone movie .
The Power of Shazam
The Shazam picture is currently in the works , with Zachary Levi playing the grownup form of the potent hero Billy Batson transforms into with a cry of “ Shazam ! ” In the cartoon strip , Shazam make all of his exponent from a variety of gods and mythological beings from the Greek pantheon , as well as , er , King Solomon from the Bible . We saw brief glimpses of the Olympian side of thing in Wonder Woman , but Justice League ’s flashback engagement give us the lightning - manage Zeus , the “ Z ” in Shazam ’s name . ( Ares , who we ’ve already met in Wonder Woman , is also part of the engagement , and so is bow - exert goddess of the Holman Hunt Artemis , whose Roman name is — wait for it — Diana . ) anticipate to see some or all of these Supreme Being in the Shazam pic .

It ’s a safe bet that Lex knows a lot more than the Justice League about what other threats are out there — you know , besides himself .
