It ’s become profusely clear that Amazon is interested in incorporating surveillance into many of its mathematical product and service — through the internet , in our house , and from the sky .
Last calendar month at Amazon ’s yearly stockholder meeting , investors pressured the companyto block sale of its facial recognition arrangement to government agencies unless there is first a board assessment and conclusion that the use of such technology does n’t violate human rights . And earlier this monthCNET reportedthat Amazon was earmark law enforcement to access video recordings from its Ring doorbells installed family across the body politic .
It seems Amazon is also believe integrate surveillance technology into its future fleet of delivery drones . A patent , filed in June 2015and approved originally this month , describes technology that would allow a manner of speaking drone to “ execute surveillance action at a property of an authorized party ” by making a “ geo - fence ” of the attribute and then “ imag[ing ] the prop to yield surveillance prototype , ” after or during which , the image data that is not within that geo - fencing would apparently be obscured .

The letters patent uses a dystopian - sounding phrase to describe this engineering science : “ surveillance as a service . ”
Amazon did not respond to a Gizmodo request for comment on the patent , but when asked about patents in the yesteryear , the caller has say that “ we file a identification number of forward - looking patent covering that explore new scientific ideas that may not make it into customer - face products . ”
Of course , it has also filed many patents that do make it into client - face products , and this drone patent shows that Amazon is at least considering way to expend legal transfer trailer for other purposes besides expedited cargo ships , namely airy surveillance . That was less touch on when the mind of lagger deliverylooked likeone of those pipe dreams that would continually be pushed into the time to come . But a few weeks ago , Amazon showed offa work designfor its delivery drone and say they are expected to commence deliverance “ within months . ”

The Prime Air pitch drone pipe were unveiled at the AmazonRe : Mars conferenceon June 5th , a daylight after the “ surveillance as a service ” patent of invention was grant .
