Belle & Sebastian: Piazza, New York Catcher

A match years ago , I was leaving New York , the metropolis I considered the center of the world , for San Francisco , a urban center I had only the vaguest impressions of from reading Joan Didion . ( course , I was composing my own edition of aleaving New York essayin my head . ) I also expend the time obsessively listening to Belle & Sebastian ’s “ Pizza , New York Catcher , ” specially that one line : “ San Francisco ’s calling us … ”

It was n’t until I really bugger off to San Francisco and my hazy stamp of the city focused into realness that I understand many of the references in the song . But you do n’t need to bed Willie Mays or the Tenderloin to listen to “ Piazza , New York Catcher . ” Like all Belle & Sebastian call , it can be a little slight and twee , but it was the absolutely wistful soundtrack for my move across the country , when a sure thing was ending and an uncertain matter was beginning .

I never write a forget New York essay ( which is a good matter ) , but it is baseball game time of year again and the Giants are playing , though not with the Mets . I also definitely do not take New York the mall of the human race any longer .
