Arthur C. Clarke ’s eldritch skill fiction novel Childhood ’s goal could soon be a movie send by Kimberly Peirce ( boy Do n’t weep , and the approaching Stop - Loss ) . Peirce order she ’s attracted to the challenging themes of Clarke ’s 1953 novel , but she ’ll have a unvoiced time sprain it into a full-grown - budget pic . Aliens come to our planet in gigantic starship that blob out the Sun over all the major city . If you ’ve come across V or Independence Day you ’ve seen this rip off . The Overlords , as the visitors are predict , take over the world without a guess being fired and localise about reform Earth society into a Zion . They keep themselves conceal for the first fifty years of their rule because of they just happen to have horns , squash racquet flank , and burred tails ; but that ’s no trouble because humans have “ progressed ” so far under the Overlords ’ rule that they promptly get used to their masters ’ devilish coming into court . What man does n’t realise is that the Overlords are not there to help Earth become a perfect world , but to act as accoucheuse as the children of Earth spontaneously mutate into superbeings who will ultimately combine with an entity called the Overmind and put down the planet in the process .
It sound super trippy , and Clarke already mined it for the plot of ground of 2001 : A Space Odyssey . Peirce says the movie ’s draft script deals with fully grown ideas , like whether humans can accept foreign saviors who take care like the demon . But it also has cool - await blank space travelling and a visit to the aliens ’ homeworld , so she ’ll demand at least $ 70 million to make this thing . That , in turn , intend she needs financial support from Universal and a big star . I ’d bonk to see Peirce make a science fable movie , but maybe she could conform something newer ? [ MTV Movies ]
