Matt Reeves , of Cloverfield fame , is still plug out at his American adaptation of Swedish vampire filmLet The Right One In . I shiver to remember of what ’s being changed , because the original was fundamentally unflawed .
The original strange cinema was establish on John Ajvide Lindqvist ’s original novel , from which it deviated here and there , but at least Lindqvist still seemed to work a bit with the Swedish film crew . The revulsion film follow the story of the brutally bullied Oskar whose occult new neighbor , Eli offers up a direction out of his perpetual world of schoolhouse contumely . But Eli descend with a whole lotta drama , him / her being a bloodsucking vampire and all .
There ’s plenty of reason this pic does n’t need to be remade , but primarily I ’m against it because the original Swedish movie was so well craft from beginning to end that a remaking is wholly unnecessary . The big pool scene at the death could easily be one of my all time pet climaxes in modernistic day cinema . The motion-picture show teeters on this creepy-crawly sharpness between what ’s genuine and what ’s too terrible for you to imagine , so that you find youself as confused as little Oskar most of the time , and it work .
According to theL.A. Times , Reeves is on the 2nd conscription of the script , which will be set in the Reagan geological era in Colorado . Even though Reeves depose he wo n’t be senesce the two main characters in the pic to increase the collection to a larger audience ( because sexy lamia deal more tickets ) , I just ca n’t seem to conceive it . My biggest fear is that they ’re give way to make this a zany love write up distraught with crappy dialogue , when the pilot is so , so , so much more than that . Or bad they could make out Eli ’s whole androgynous plot line entirely , which I can easy see someone doing because it ’s just too hard to explicate to audiences . But that ’s the beauty of this movie , it ’s not fully explicate , it force the interview to imagine the atrocious human activity that are come about off tv camera , in a dark back street or above the weewee . Please do n’t bankrupt the one digest - out lamia movie we ’ve had in the last few year . It ’s the save free grace of an oversaturated genre .
