A delusional Minnesota court has orderedJammie Thomas , wanton criminal Kazaa user , to pay a total of $ 1.92 million for sharing 24 song . As my own little protest , I ’m go to illicitly download Metallica ’s entire discography . And I detest Metallica .
The decision has taken a ton of twists and turns — even after the jury had adjudicate what Thomas had done was in fact illegal filesharing , the punishment was n’t at all clear . Originally she was to be ticket for over 1,700 songs , which was then pare down to 24 “ representative ” vocal , and the per Sung mulct has shot up from the initial $ 750 ( the sound minimum ) to the current $ 80,000 .
Apparently Thomas “ gasped ” when the numeral was read out aloud . We do n’t blame her , although our reaction was more clenched fist - excite and muttering about erstwhile white Man in suits than sheer surprise .

The ordeal is n’t over , of course — Thomas will appeal the decisiveness and it ’ll probably be hear by a few more discriminative levels before any last say is had . Jammie , we ’re pull out for you . tolerate grandiloquent . Or sit down down , it ’s loose to steal music that way . [ Ars Technica ]
