We ’ve already crownedAnimal Manas the good affair to come out of the DC relaunch , but what about the other twelve titles from last hebdomad ?

Let ’s grade these suckers — comics will be judge on lineament , overall approachability , and whether or not I strike asleep midway through meter reading .

Upper Tier
The Vertigo - tinged books under The Dark banner are so far DC ’s potent new release . On Swamp Thing , Yannick Paquette does a bang - up job on artistic production , plough the toilet between venire into a chaotic lattice of vine . Scott Snyder delivers an intriguing playscript — Dr. Alec Holland has returned as a human but remembers being Swamp Thing — but folks who were n’t follow Brightest Day are n’t done any favors here .
Grant Morrison ’s Action Comics has been on the stands for less than a week and there ’s already been an aggressively stupefied controversy about hisbrassy and brash novel Superman . The first way out immediately introduce us to a greenish - around - the - ear Superman who roughs up Metropolis ’ corrupt upper cheekiness . It ’s a hiss seeing Clark Kent pontificate like a kid who ’s learn A People ’s History of the United States for the first time . Action is promising but lack a certain gonzo panache . But hey , this is Grant “ All - Star Superman ” Morrison we ’re talking about , so I ’ll be buying the second takings .

Finally , I ’m not sure what DC initiate will make of O.M.A.C. , but this is Keith Giffen on a Technicolor teardrop . In this bare - bone taradiddle , a cyborg with a giant blue mohawk crush the hell out of a crew of dark Jack Kirby ’s scientific discipline villains . I opine Dubbilex is a bad cat now ? Retro , trippy , and worth a flavour .
Middle Tier
Gail Simone ’s Batgirl starts out strong . It ’s good to see Barbara Gordon kicking screw in the cowl again , but the plot keep bring waylaid with persistence issue that are hand - waved aside just as abruptly as they ’re brought up . The publication end on a wacky , no - stakes cliffhanger . On the plus side , Ardian Syaf ’s artwork is enjoyably dynamic .

Same run for the remainder of the Gotham Knights . Batwing and Detective Comics ’ merit were mostly artistic . Ben Oliver ’s photorealistic piece of work on the former and Tony Daniel ’s claustrophobic pencils on the latter bolstered otherwise average Bat - tales . Detective at least had a decent closing crotchet .
Justice League International was an adorably whacky 1990s throwback ( and Aaron Lopresti ’s art is super - clean ) , but it ’s not a radical read . Same with late August ’s Justice League , but replace “ 1990s ” with “ Ultimates - epoch ” and “ Aaron Lopresti ” with “ Jim Lee . ”
down in the mouth Tier

There ’s nothing all that memorable about Static Shock , Men of War , and Hawk and Dove . I suppose they ’re worth turn back out if you ’re a fan of the Milestone Universe , Sergeant Rock , and Rob Liefield , severally .
Green Arrow ostensibly draw its inspiration from the Smallville embodiment of Oliver Queen ( a.k.a . Green Arrow as Tony Stark in a green hoodie ) . I get it on that ’s the most mainstream popular version of Green Arrow , but is that really a model anybody ’s champ at the bit for ? The game was so generic it was soporific . Dan Jurgens ’ art was neat stuff , though .
