Warner Bros. just released the first trailer for Blue Beetle , starringXolo Maridueña , George Lopez , and Susan Sarandon , and it looks wildly fun . Directed byAngel Manuel Soto , it ’s the first meter the character is seem in unrecorded - natural action — and though the film wasoriginally going directly to HBO Max , the studio decided the fib of Jaime Reyes deserved to be told on the self-aggrandising screen .

As you could see in the trailer , Blue Beetle is very focussed on fellowship and that was a key moral force for the filmmakers . “ One of the things that we really want to do with the plaster cast was to be able to be as authentic as we can , ” Soto , who was wear and raised in Puerto Rico , said . “ Not the Hallmark , cookie - cutter Latinos . Something that feel like , ‘ Yeah , that ’s my uncle . I can altogether relate … ’ That for me , as a director , is plausibly the most substantial affair . Being capable to to get an authentic interpersonal chemistry from a collective that feels like something I grew up with . ”
“ We see some of these other superheroes who are able to hide from their mob the fact that they ’re a superhero , ” Maridueña added . “ But , I mean , as you cat just saw in the trailer , his family is right there on that first transmutation … So to come through this journey together is something that I think we have n’t learn before in superhero movies . And that really is the beating spunk of this film . ”
Though Jamie Reyes and his family are the beating heart of Blue Beetle , the movie is n’t beholden to just his version of Blue Beetle . Reyes , of course of study , is the most late loop of the character but in senior comic , Blue Beetle has been Dan Garrett and Ted Kord too . Soto described his advance to the character as less a direct adaptation of Reyes ’ fib , and more a “ dandy hit ” of nerveless Blue Beetle stuff from all proceeds on the fibre .

“ There is a luck of great stuff in all of the different runs , and we were like , ‘ Man , how do you prefer one ? ’ ” Soto said . “ And then we were like , ‘ Do we have to choose one ? Let ’s do whatever the fuck we want , just have fun and create something awesome . produce something really interesting that takes the greatest hits , even from the Injustice 2 game . We really deep diving on it because it ’s fucking dope . ”
By bringing all that together , Soto and Maridueña hope Blue Beetle wo n’t only be “ fucking dumbbell , ” but something that feels unequaled and exceptional in a sea of other superhero cinema . “ We wanted to do something that ’s different , ” Maridueña say . “ We ’ve seen a lot of these superhero movies over the class of the past couplet of decades . And see [ which ] slot we can fit in that feel different was one of the most magical part … It ’s not about competition to us . We ’re not look to be called ‘ The next claptrap , blah , blah . ’ We just need to enter this space and have it palpate new . And I imagine we completed that . I recollect we did it . ”
