“ Historically , we do n’t have any kind of information on electrical eels living together , ” de Santana tell Gizmodo . “ They were retrieve to be alone and maybe congregate before the breeding season , but that was it . ”

It ’s unclear exactly why these particular electric eels are using this hunting scheme , since it ’s never been report outside of this one little lake . De Santana wonders if certain environmental conditions may make mathematical group hunt more likely . For illustration , in the rain forest Lowlands of Scotland , the rivers are wide , with abundant Pisces to exhaust . But in the upland where these eel were spotted , target is more scarce .
“ Solitary hunting behaviour could be much hard to do [ in the highland ] , ” said de Santana , noting that the fish might spend more energy trying to locate target , making radical hunting utilitarian .
Whatever reason for the search strategy , the findings suggest that galvanising eels have a social man that has gone undetected until now .
Michael Taborsky — a behavioral ecologist at the University of Bern who was not require with this research — said the breakthrough “ fit well into what we know already about mathematical group hunting doings in Pisces the Fishes search animals , ” note that work together to capture Pisces is widespread among animals , if not among predatory Pisces the Fishes .
