After six year as executive president — first at Google , then Alphabet — Eric Schmidt announced in a press release today that he will mistreat down , take on the role of technological advisor at the company and remaining on its circuit board .
In thepress release , Schmidt notes that , “ in recent years , I ’ve been spending a lot of my meter on skill and technology issues , and philanthropic gift , and I plan to lucubrate that work . ”
Schmidt served as chief operating officer of Google from 2001 to 2011 , and remained with the company as executive chair during the restructuring that formed Alphabet . At the present time , it is ill-defined what responsibilities his new role lend .
Alphabet carry its control panel of directors to constitute a non - executive chairman .
