Fujifilm announced the launching of its updated GFX100 large formatting mirrorless digital camera on Wednesday , which now come equipped with infrared range - making capabilities that could be used in forensic , scientific , and ethnic preservation capacities .
Through its new Pixel Shift Multi - Shot social function , the GFX100 IR can now be used to “ reveal intricate detail within a topic or scene that can only normally be seen through the infrared spectrum . ”
The IR comes equipped with filters in front of the camera lens that allow its drug user to make picture at a variety of different calorie-free wavelengths ( with the option of still using the tv camera normally to take pictures of colors along the seeable spectrum ) .

The add feature will be “ invaluable for cultural enquiry , ” Fujifilm aver in a statement , because “ critique images of a subject area in infrared could ultimately lead to potentially unlocking untold arcanum from some of history ’s most treasured artifact … [ or ] for researchers using the image to judge deeds of art or pieces of evidence . ”
Fujifilm take down that the IR will not be made available for world-wide commercial use and will be primarily commercialise for forensic , scientific and ethnical preservation use . Although the ship’s company ’s internet site did not heel a monetary value for the camera , it did remark that the IR is expected to be made available on Dec 1 , 2020 , in limited Asian , North American , Oceanic , and European markets .
In add-on to the update GFX100 IR , Fujifilm also declare additional firmware for the flagship camera that will enable users to make pictures with 400MP of resolution known as the Pixel Shift Multi - Shot .

“ For those working in the archival or cultural preservation field of operation , these new functions are especially valuable to photographers documenting historical artefact or large works of art , because they can be preserved digitally at 400 - megapixels , ” Fujfilm write .
