Based on the Robinne Lee novel of the same name, the new film follows Hathaway as a divorced mother who strikes up a romance with a young pop star (Galitzine) after meeting him at Coachella.
Plans for the movie adaptation werefirst announced in 2018and casting announcements were made several years later in 2022.

Many have speculated that the book is based on Harry Styles fan fiction, with the character of Hayes having many similarities to the former One Direction singer, right down to his many tattoos.
However, she maintainsThe Idea of Youwas “never supposed to be a book about Harry Styles … it was supposed to be a story about a woman approaching 40 and reclaiming her sexuality and rediscovering herself, just at the point that society traditionally writes women off as desirable and viable and whole.”

Production for the film first began in October 2022, at which time Hathaway and Galitzine werephotographed filming a scenein which Galitzine wrapped his arm around Hathaway. Later that month, they were photographed kissing in the rain during a steamy onscreen moment.
In December 2022, Galitzine confirmed filming had wrapped ashe posted a handful of behind-the-scenes photoson his Instagram profile.
Is there a trailer forThe Idea of You?
The first glimpse of the movie was released in December 2023 as Prime Video shared the teaser for their 2024 slate. In the clip, fans can see Hathaway and Galitzine sharing a poolside embrace chair and another moment in which they begin to kiss.
The official trailer was released in March 2024, showing how Solène and Hayes' relationship comes to be.
